Mumbai: Mumbaikars are frustrated with the ongoing traffic issues on the Western Express Highway (WEH) from Jogeshwari to Santacruz. Daily jams, especially during peak hours, make travel on the road extremely difficult. One particularly irritated commuter shared their concerns on X on February 21, calling for action. He slammed Mumbai's traffic department over the jam near Santacruz and questioned their actions on the issue.
The X user posted, mentioning the Mumbai Traffic Police: "Hello, the entire WEH from Jogeshwari to Santacruz is jammed, as is the South Bound. This is an everyday problem at Santacruz. What are you doing about it?"
Mumbai Traffic Police Responds
In response, the Mumbai Traffic Police posted: "Your call has been reported to Wireless. Traffic will return to normal shortly."
However, many users on X criticised the response. They pointed out that the traffic did not improve quickly, and there was zero presence of traffic police to manage the situation. One user sarcastically commented, "Copy-paste, the best you can do. Baki Pagar to milta hi rahega, traffic jam 10 km lamba kyu na ho."
Another user added, "It never does. Same situation on weekdays for the last 20 years. They will install more signals & breakers. Wonder why itโs called Western Express Way with so many signals? Just rename it to Western Slow Way so that expectations are set accordingly."
Others mentioned that the traffic issue is not limited to peak hours but happens all day long. Many suggested that better enforcement of lane discipline and traffic management could help resolve the situation.
A few also expressed disappointment, saying ''This is a daily problem.. peak or off-peak. Mumbai Traffic Police should do a better job of enforcing lane discipline and managing traffic well. Sad to see an organization which was once touted to be the best is a shadow of its past. Wake up Mumbai Police''.
The everyday traffic congestion in Mumbai, especially on the Western Express Highway, is making commuters impatient.
