Leakage in water tanks of these fire engines reported

Mumbai : Leader of opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Devendra Amberkar, has alleged irregularities in the purchase of 16 fire engines recently inducted into the fire brigade. He demanded thorough inquiry into the case as leakage in water tanks of these fire engines has come to fore.

It is to be recalled here that Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray had recently inducted these 16 newly purchased fire engines. The fire engines were claimed to be of the highest standard of make helping the fire brigade to douse fire quickly. But as water leakage from these engines was noticed, Amberkar raised the issue in the Standing Committee meeting.

Meanwhile, the BMC had spent Rs 1.68 lakh on every water tanker having the capacity of 4,500 litres. Amberkar alleged that fire brigade officers were aware of the leakage and did not test the water tankers. This has led to the scam worth crores of rupees, he said and demanded probe into the case.
