Mumbai: A location where numerous Mumbaikars seek comfort during the rainy season has reported a disturbing incident from the hill station of Lonavala, where a young woman was gang-raped by three men in a moving vehicle. The attackers compelled her to get into the car and transported her to different places, inflicting extreme violence before leaving her on the city's outskirts.
After the incident, one individual has been apprehended due to CCTV evidence, while searches are ongoing for the two remaining offenders. The crime was reported by the victim at Lonavala City Police Station, leading to the filing of an FIR under various sections of the Indian Justice Code.

Police Inspector Rajesh Ramaghare mentioned that a thorough investigation is ongoing due to the seriousness of the crime, which includes prompt medical and forensic assessments for both the victim and the accused. In the meantime, the victim has had a medical exam, and her testimony is being taken by a magistrate.
The police responded quickly, detaining one suspect within 12 hours of the event, and are actively collaborating with various teams to capture the other assailants. The Pune Rural Police have arrested a 35-year-old individual linked to a rape incident reported in Lonavala, after a prompt inquiry based on CCTV footage and additional questioning of the victim.
As per the FIR filed at the Lonavala City Police Station, the event took place on the night of July 25, when the woman reported that three unidentified men violently dragged her into a car, transported her to an unmarked area, sexually violated her, and subsequently left her in Lonavala the following morning. Nonetheless, throughout the investigation, the story evolved.
The individual charged has been recognized as Sanil Vasant Gaikwad (35), who lives in Tungarli, situated in the Maval taluka of Pune district. SP Gill stated that the victim and the suspect were familiar with one another, providing additional clarity in the investigation according to a report by Punekar News. A case has been filed under applicable sections of the BNS, which include Sections 70, 64(M), 138, 304(2), and 115(2).
