Mumbai: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and nearby cities, including Thane and other districts in Maharashtra, for February 25 and 26. The city will experience extreme heat, with temperatures expected to rise from a low of 23 degrees Celsius to a high of 35 degrees Celsius.

A yellow alert has been declared by IMD, with temperatures anticipated to reach 37-38 degrees Celsius, which is significantly above the normal range for February.

To protect yourself from the extreme heat, here are the five essential tips that can be taken in the summer:

Stay Hydrated:

Even if you don't feel thirsty, drinking water and staying hydrated throughout the day is important. Dehydration can occur quickly in the heat. Opt for drinks like juice, lassi, lemon water, or coconut water. It's best to avoid alcohol, tea, and coffee during the summer.

Watermelon juice is an excellent choice in the summer as it helps keep you hydrated while providing nutrients that promote healthy skin, digestion, weight management, and heart health.

Exercise Timings:

Limit intense activities and workouts during the hottest time of the day. It's advisable to avoid physical activities when the temperature is extreme. If you prefer exercising outdoors, try to schedule your workouts during cooler hours, such as early morning or late evening.

Avoid stepping out

Avoid stepping out during peak hours in summers

Stepping out during peak hours can lead to heat-related illnesses. It's safer to be outside during cooler times of the day or in the evening when temperatures are more moderate, especially between 12 PM and 3 PM when the heat is at its highest.

Eat Crud

Include Crud (Daahi) in the Diet:

In the summer, eating fresh fruit can also help you stay cool. A great addition to your summer diet, eating "crud" has several health benefits, especially for your digestive system, when it's really hot outside.
