From Big-Budget Films To Netflix Shoots: Apta, CSMT Top Picks For Filmmakers As Central Railway Earns ₹40.13 Lakh in FY 2024-25

Central Railway earned the highest revenue amounting to Rs17.85 lakhs from the shoot of Katha Pictures production “Gandhari” followed by an amount of Rs.8.12 lakhs from the shoot of Dharmatic Productions “ Aap Jaisa Koi”.

Apta & CSMT continue to be filmmakers’ most preferred film shooting locations

Central Railway has earned over Rs 40.13 lakhs by offering its various premises and rail coaches for film shootings during the financial year 2024-25. Around 7 shoots including 3 Netflix films, 2 Web series, 1 Regional film and 1 Ad film were carried out at different Central Railway locations by various filmmakers and major production houses like Dharmatic Productions.

Central Railway earned the highest revenue amounting to Rs 17.85 lakhs from the shoot of Katha Pictures production “Gandhari” followed by an amount of Rs.8.12 lakhs from the shoot of Dharmatic Productions “ Aap Jaisa Koi”.

Both these films have been shot at Apta station which has been the location for iconic movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Munna Michael and others in the past. 

Apta station with its scenic beauty remains one of Central Railway’s most preferred locations. A total of 3 shoots have been done at Apta during the FY 2024-25 earning a total revenue of Rs.27.57 lakhs  which is almost 68 % of the total earnings from Film shoots in 2024-25.

Other films shot during FY 2024-25 include:

Netflix film Khakhi and Ad film T-20 World Cup at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

Telugu Film Kuber at Cotton Green station,

Web Series Children of Freedom at Apta and Web Series Dal Dal at Matunga. 

Many box office hit films have been shot over Central Railway like Slum Dog Millionaire, Kaminey, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Ra-one, Raavan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo,  Dilwale Dulaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dabangg, Darbaar, Rang de Basanti, Baaghi, Khaki, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and many others. The most preferred film shooting locations were Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and other popular stations like Apta, Panvel, Lonavala, Khandala, Wathar, Satara and railway yards like Turbhe and Wadi bunder. 

The permission for the film shooting is granted by the Public Relations Department of Central Railway and  to expedite the film shooting permission, a single window system has been introduced. This simplification of the procedure will enable the film companies to obtain permission after submission of the necessary documents along with the script and application.
