Mumbai: For the first time, the City Collector and the State Election Commission will distribute voter slips to the residents in Mumbai. The scheme will be implemented from Thursday till April 20.
Till now, political parties used to distribute the slips, however, with the rules getting stricter and the Election Code of Conduct being implemented, the CEC said for the first time the duty would be undertaken by its officials. The voter slip includes name of the voter, his voter number, polling booth and his picture with original signature. These slips will also have the signature of the booth-level official. These slips will have to be submitted by voters when they go to cast their votes. Most importantly, xerox copies will not be accepted. If on the slip, photo of the voter is missing, he should have photo-identity proofs like passport, driving licence, company’s I-card, bank pass books, PAN card or Aadhar card with him. However, if the residents do not get the slips, they are expected to carry their Voter I-card and any of the above proofs.
The State Election Commission has also alerted the voters that in case their photos are not there on the voter slips, they should carry copies of their photos and submit the same at polling booths so that the information can be updated for the next elections. The State will go for Assembly polls later in the year. –
