Mumbai: It was a good day for residents living in the vicinity of Indu Mill area, who had been complaining about air pollution. On world environment day, there was change in the air!
After The Free Press Journal reported on June 5, the issue on the Dadar residents complaining of air pollution due to the work on the Ambdekar memorial, at Indu Mills, the Shiv Sena corporator, Vishakha Raut, called the shakha pramukh, Ajit Kadam and asked him to look into the matter. Kadam and his workers went to the Indu Mill site where the work was going on and called the site superintendent Sudesh Darekar of Shapoorji Pallonji Group regarding the clearance of debris.
Immediately after this, the labourers were seen sweeping away the dust and spraying water from tankers and cleaning the road. Raut said, she was out of town and called up the workers in the morning for prompt action. Kadam said, “I read your newspaper and went to Suryawanshi Kshatriya Hall lane with Sainiks to ensure proper steps were being taken to clean the area and the debris would be cleared within three days.”
Residents from Abdul Court, Kachwala Mansion, Bole Smruti building and the Pratipada building were relieved that action was being taken to solve their problems. Sanjay Pradhan a resident of Abdul Court, situated across this road, said, “Now the road is clean and there is no dust.”
Suresh Bole from Bole Smruti building said, “We saw that a water tanker had been summoned to wash the roads.” Norman Colaco from Keshav Smruti building said, “For the first time in five months the workers were seen cleaning the road.” However, since there was a wedding being held at Suryawanshi Kshatriya hall, the entire lane could not be cleaned.
