Nature enthusiasts and bird watchers will have a unique opportunity to witness the stunning avian diversity of Navi Mumbai’s wetlands as the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) organizes a Flamingo Watch at TS Chanakya, Nerul, on Sunday, March 9.
Situated along Palm Beach Road, the wetlands around TS Chanakya serve as a haven for migratory and resident bird species. As the migration season begins, participants can expect to spot a variety of wetland birds, including Painted Stork, Indian Shag, Slender-billed Gull, Pacific Golden Plover, Common Redshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Marsh Harrier, Osprey, and both Lesser and Greater Flamingos. Additionally, sightings of Red Avadavat, Indian Silverbill, Scaly-breasted Munia, Bluethroat, Indian Roller, Baya Weaver, and Grey Francolin are also anticipated.
The two-hour birdwatching session is classified as easy, involving a 2–3 km guided walk. Participants will assemble at 7:30 a.m. near the underpass entrance of TS Chanakya, Nerul, with the event concluding by 9:30 a.m.
The participation fee is Rs 700 for BNHS members and Rs 800 for non-members, covering entry tickets, permission charges (if applicable), and expert guidance from BNHS ornithologists.
