Mumbai: In yet another incident at Tarapur MIDC in Boisar, Palghar, a fire broke out in a chemical factory during the mixing of a few chemicals on Tuesday at 5.30 pm.

The incident occurred inside Harshal Chemical and Sai Enterprises. While no casualties were reported in the blaze, two workers sustained injuries and were rushed to Tunga Hospital for medical care.

Officials said that the cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.

According to fire officials, soon after the fire call was made, three fire tenders from Palghar fire station were rushed to the spot, where firefighting operations were underway. Chemicals, which were stored in the premises, emanated a foul smell due to the fire and spread to the adjoining areas, said an official.

The fire at Harshal Chemical company alarmed employees of neighbouring factories, causing panic.

Two employees-- Vinay Kumar Bind, 40 and Hemant Bari, 42, sustained burn injuries. While Bari escaped with minor burn injuries, Bind sustained 30 per cent burns, said a fire official.

Bari has been discharged from the hospital.

After securing all the employees of the factory, the chemical drums were taken out into the open, in a bid to prevent a massive explosion. The factory housed chemicals like Methanol, Tolvin, mixed solvents and Benzene, which was being mixed in drum, during which a fire explosion was heard.

A similar incident was reported three years ago in the same factory, where supplies worth lakhs of rupees were charred.
