Mumbai: The Amboli police filed an FIR against Rapido and its director on July 18 for illegally operating transportation services through its app, following a complaint by Harshal Sase, a 41-year-old Vehicle Supervision Officer from the Regional Transport Commissioner’s Office.

About The FIR

The FIR alleges that Rapido, operating under Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited, lacks government permission to run vehicles in the city, violating the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The app reportedly deceives passengers, lacks driver character verification, and has inadequate safety measures, posing risks to women.

Rapido’s application for permission was rejected by the government on December 20, 2022, and subsequent appeals were dismissed by the high court and the Supreme Court. Despite this, Rapido continues its operations. The case is registered under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, along with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 223 (disobedience to public servant orders)
