Mira-Bhayandar: In a proud moment for the twin-city, a delegation of eight women representing local self-help groups (SHG) have been selected by the central government’s National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog to receive national recognition for registering their participation in Project "Faraal (snacks) Sakhi (friend)" a first of its kind flagship initiative conceptualized by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

About The Ceremony

The felicitation ceremony will be held on 20, March at the Travancore House (New Delhi) in the prominent presence of dignitaries including chief economic advisor (NITI Aayog) Anna Roy, union minister of state for micro, small, and medium enterprises Shobha Karandlaje and joint managing director of Apollo Hospitals Sangeeta Reddy. MBMC chief Radhabinod A. Sharma (IAS) has been invited as the keynote speaker at the event titled 'Women-led Development through Entrepreneurship'.

About The Faraal Sakhi Initiative

Under the Faraal Sakhi initiative, the MBMC not only trained and encouraged women to manufacture various types of snacks in a commercial manner, but also set up a mechanism for branding and selling the products. The initiative received an overwhelming response as more than 3 tons of snacks were sold during the festive season of Diwali, last year.

The MBMC has rolled up its sleeves to transform “Faral Sakhi” into a comprehensive brand aimed at generating self-employment opportunities for women. Notably, the MBMC has collaborated with the central government and formally launched 'Faraal Sakhi'- Award to Reward initiative under the aegis of NITI Aayog’s women entrepreneurship platform (WEP) under which 25 women were given training on business management, marketing-branding strategy, handling finances, attracting investments, credit management and procuring business loans.
