Mumbai: Tension erupted in Mumbai’s Dadar area on Wednesday morning after a large group of Jain protestors assembled at the Kabutarkhana to express outrage against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) ongoing action on pigeon feeding spots.

The protest, which began peacefully, soon turned chaotic. Several demonstrators were seen vandalising the plastic cover installed by civic authorities and forcibly reopening the feeding area, in defiance of the BMC’s orders.

The incident has triggered a wave of reactions on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where many users expressed disbelief and frustration over the prioritisation of the protest. Several netizens questioned why such collective outrage is not directed toward more pressing civic issues plaguing Mumbai.

Netizens Reactions:

One user wrote, "On an average, 7-8 people die every day on the train tracks of Mumbai, and yet, pigeons are what we choose to protest?"

Another commented, "This is what deserves protests: potholes, footpaths, hawkers, crowded trains... But what do people protest for? Pigeons."

Some users clarified they do not hate animals or birds, but stressed the disproportionate attention being given to the pigeon issue. "I don't hate animals or birds, but hey, come on, we’ve been living worse lives than them in Mumbai for ages," one post read.

Another popular reaction stated, "So true... Why don't we have such protests against potholes or the lack of good infrastructure? Why can people come together for this, but not for the many other pressing issues? It baffles me!"

Echoing similar sentiments, a user posted, "I wish some day people could come together like this against potholes, illegal encroachments, lack of footpaths, and the lack of BEST buses in this city instead of this pigeon menace!"
