Mumbai: The standing committee of BMC on Thursday approved the proposal to repair 16 bridges and subways on the condition that the blacklisted auditor D D Desai Consultants be removed.

Now, auditing work will be given to Indian Institute of Technology Bombay as per the court’s order.Interestingly, when the proposal was tabled, the BJP did not take any firm stand and accused the opposition members of trying to shield the auditing firm.

BJP senior corporator Manoj Kotak and Prabhakar Shinde were absent during this discussion. After the proposal to repair the 16 bridges was tabled, there was a long discussion during which Ravi Raja, leader of opposition from the Congress, said they would approve the proposal only on the condition that the tainted auditing company, D D Desai Consultants, is removed.

The chairman of the standing committee, Yashwant Jadhav, endorsed the suggestion and the proposal was approved.
BJP and Shiv Sena seemed to disagree, but did not raise any major objection.

Sena and the BJP later accused opposition leader Raja of saving the tainted firm. “Raja demanded removal of the Desai consultancy so that they are relieved of all charges,” charged Sawant. Raja accused the ruling parties of not working efficiently and honestly.

“They are just pointing fingers at me. If they did not want this proposal, they should have registered their objections,” said Raja. BMC has removed the tainted firm from ongoing work and de-empanelled it. BMC has also sent a notice to blacklist it and stopped payment for their previous work.
