COVID-19: Maharashtra cumulative vaccination tally crosses 8.46 crore

In the ongoing vaccination drive, Maharashtra on October 5 has vaccinated 4,49,064 people in 3,835 sessions.

According to data released by the government, as of 7 am on October 6 Maharashtra inoculated 8,46,48,743 people.

As per the state government data, 3,09,47,986 individuals aged between 18 and 44 years received their first vaccine dose and 80,82,781 received their second dose since the inoculation drive for this age group began on May 1.

So far, 12,93,560 health care workers have been administered the first dose of the vaccine, while 10,88,581 of them have got their second dose.

Similarly, 21,44,374 frontline workers in the state have till now received their first vaccine dose and of them, 17,73,821 got their second dose.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 2,401 new COVID-19 cases and 39 fresh deaths on Tuesday - an uptick from multi-month lows registered a day ago - taking the infection tally to 65,64,915 and the toll to 1,39,272, a health department official said.

Maharashtra witnessed a rise in COVID-19 cases and fatalities as compared to Monday, when it reported 2,026 infections, the lowest since February 2, and 26 fatalities.

The official said with 2,840 patients getting discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the number of recovered cases rose to 63,88,899. The state now has 33,159 active cases.

He said 2,40,052 people are in home quarantine and another 1,338 in institutional quarantine.

The official said Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.32 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.12 per cent.

The cumulative number of coronavirus tests conducted in the state climbed to 5,94,69,053 after 1,31,340 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, he said.

Ten districts (rural areas) and four municipal corporations (urban centres) did not report any new COVID-19 cases, according to the official. Mumbai districts reported the highest 447 new infections in the state.

Among the eight regions of Maharashtra, the Mumbai region reported the highest 845 new COVID-19 cases, followed by 791 in the Pune region.

The Nashik region reported 463 new cases, Kolhapur 178, Latur 77, Aurangabad 30, Nagpur 12 and the Akola region five.

According to the official, among the 39 fresh fatalities, the highest 13 were reported from the Pune region, followed by 10 from the Nashik region.

Seven fatalities each were registered in Kolhapur and Mumbai regions, while the Latur region saw the death of two coronavirus patients, he said.

Significantly, Aurangabad, Akola and Nagpur regions did not report any fresh fatalities.

The official said Mumbai witnessed 427 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths, while Pune city reported 161 infections and one fatality.

Among the 33,159 active cases in the state, Pune district has the highest at 8,593, he said.

Out of the 63,88,899 recovered cases across the state, the highest - 11,16,810 - were from Pune district, the official said.

Coronavirus figures for Maharashtra are as follows: Total cases 65,64,915; new cases 2,401; total deaths 1,39,272; recoveries 63,88,899; active cases 33,159; total tests 5,94,69,053.
