Taking a note from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the Thane Municipal Corporation started a vaccination drive for students traveling abroad for higher studies. The walk-in vaccination drive that started on Monday helped 195 students to get vaccinated.

The 195 students who got their vaccination jab on Monday were mostly students who have got admissions in foreign colleges and universities. It is mandatory for the students to carry necessary documents confirming their admission in the foriegn university and vaccination was a priority.

Earlier, Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray had tweeted where he had requested civic chiefs of Pune, Nagpur and Thane to 'make vaccination arrangements for students due to fly abroad for studies'. Taking a note, Dr Vipin Sharma, Municipal Commissioner, TMC and Naresh Mhaske, Mayor, Thane organised a walk-in drive for these students.

Naresh Mhaske, Mayor of Thane who had given a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, TMC for giving priority to such students said the vaccination drive was organised at post covid vaccination centre of TMC at Majiwada in Thane. "It's a walk-in drive for the students and on the first day we have received a good response. Any student traveling abroad for studies should come with documents. After verifying the documents the student can get himself vaccinated," added Mhaske.

Earlier, the corporation had decided to vaccinate 50 students on Monday from 11am to 2pm. But on the first day on Monday around 195 students traveling abroad reached the centre for vaccination. "Instead of going on with 50 vaccinations per day. Around 195 students who walk-in today at the centre in Majiwada were vaccinated. Instead of delaying the vaccination, which may delay the traveling process. Giving them priority we vaccinated all the students who approached on Monday. We will appeal to the students to reach the centre with documents including visa and benefit from the drive, as we are giving priority to students traveling abroad," said Sandeep Malvi, Public Relation officer and Deputy Municipal Commissioner of TMC.
