A 67-year-old man from Kalyan, who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, died at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital on Wednesday. He was initially admitted to a private hospital in Dombivli on May 24. His RT-PCR sample was taken the same night and confirmed positive for COVID-19. He was later referred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. The patient had a history of hypertension and diabetes and had been paralyzed following a stroke twelve years ago.

Deepa Shukla, a health officer from KDMC, said, "He passed away on Wednesday evening. During the medical investigation, we learned that he had not taken a COVID vaccine dose."

"A total of eight COVID-19 cases were reported in the twin city under the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, including two who died after testing positive. Of these eight, two were admitted to private hospitals, three were discharged, two died, and one is in home quarantine," said a health officer from the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

On May 23, a 47-year-old woman from Kalyan, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died at a private hospital in Kalyan the same night. She had been admitted earlier that day with ongoing health complications, and a swab sample was taken for testing. Unfortunately, she passed away the same night. Her COVID-19 test report, which arrived after her death, confirmed that she was infected with the virus.

Meanwhile, in Thane on May 24, a 21-year-old man from Mumbra who had tested positive for COVID-19 died at the state government-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. He had been admitted on May 22 with type 1 diabetes and ketoacidosis—a serious complication in which the body produces excess blood acids. His condition deteriorated rapidly due to the spreading infection.
