COVID-19 Case Reported At Kalwa Hospital As Resident Surgeon Tests Positive, Admitted For Care

Mumbai: A surgeon doctor from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa reported tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday and has been admitted to the hospital for isolation and treatment. A doctor who resides on the campus was in the hospital and developed very mild symptoms; he is stable. No travel history has been found.

Anirudhha Malegaonkar, a doctor from Kalwa Hospital, said, "The report of Covid-19 for one of our surgeons came on Saturday, and we learned that he had tested positive. He has been admitted to the hospital for isolation and treatment, and a corona test will be carried out for those doctors who came into contact with the surgeon."

Currently, isolation facilities are available at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital and Thane Municipal Corporation, though designated COVID wards have been set up and a total of 19 beds are set up. "We are prepared with infrastructure, and patients with severe symptoms are being tested for COVID," said a senior health official.

A 21-year-old man from Mumbra, who had tested positive for COVID-19 died at the state government-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa on Saturday.

Dr. Rakesh Barot, the hospital dean, stated that the patient was admitted to the hospital on Thursday with type one diabetes and ketoacidosis, a serious complication in which the body produces excess blood acids, and the infection was fast spreading. The patient was shifted to the intensive care unit and placed on a ventilator. The COVID-19 report came on Friday night and confirmed that he had tested positive. Subsequently, he died on Saturday at about 6 AM before being shifted to the isolation room.
