Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Monday met NCP chief Sharad Pawar at the latter's residence.

Taking to Twitter, Devendra Fadnavis said: "Met Former Union Minister & Senior leader Shri Sharad Pawar ji at his residence in Mumbai this morning. This was a courtesy meeting."

Pawar, whose party shares power with the Shiv Sena and NCP in Maharashtra, recently underwent a gall bladder surgery following which he was advised to rest.

Fadnavis, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, has been critical of the Uddhav Thackeray-led state government over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the Maharashtra law granting quota to Marathas in admissions and government jobs.

On Friday, BJP MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati warned that if the Maharashtra government does not accept his demands concerning the Maratha community by June 6, he would launch an agitation regardless of the coronavirus-induced restrictions.

Speaking to reporters, the descendant of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj said he submitted a list of his demands to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday.

BJP MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati had on Thursday met NCP chief Sharad Pawar to discuss the Maratha reservation issue and urged him to take an initiative in the matter. Over the last few days, he toured parts of the state to discuss with locals from the community regarding the future course of action.
