GRP’s website Shodh provides the service of tracing the identities of people who die in railway mishaps

Mumbai : Mumbai police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) have now come together through the latter’s website, Shodh, which provides the service of tracing the identities of people who die in railway mishaps.

Mumbai police, for the past few months had been planning to come up with a common platform, trackthemissingchild.com, which would host the details of all undetected missing children’s cases in order to increase the coordination between all stakeholders involved in tracing them. In the past few weeks, after Mumbai police noticed GRP’s success with their website, shodh.gov.in for tracing the identities of people who die in railway mishaps, they approached the latter to combine their pet project with Shodh.

“What the GRP is doing is not very different. People who die in railway mishaps have missing persons’ cases registered by their relatives. It is a good platform to trace relatives gone missing. Shodh has already gained a lot of popularity and has been successful in tracing many missing people in Mumbai. Hence, instead of coming up with yet another platform, we decided to incorporate our services with those of Shodh,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Enforcement) Pravinkumar Patil.

The combining of the two services is not only economical and time-saving, but will also provide one common platform to the citizens who are already confused with multiple helpline numbers and other such services. Presently, Mumbai police has completed the work of training its staff, while the process of uploading the database is going on. Their services are expected to be operational in the next few weeks.

The website, Shodh, this year has managed to trace 424 people while 203 are yet untraced. Of these, 52 deceased people who got traced had missing complaints registered with the Mumbai police.

Mumbai police’s website on the other hand will be bringing various stakeholders such as Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Women and Child Development (WCD), and other NGOs as these agencies are also involved in rehabilitating children pushed into child labour and begging rackets. By combining the two services, Mumbai police will be bringing one more stakeholder, the GRP on one platform as most of the deaths on Railways are bound to have missing persons’ cases registered with the Mumbai police.
