Navi Mumbai : After a long wait, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will open the exhibition centre near Vashi railway on Monday. The state-of-the art exhibition centre is spread across 7.5 hectares in sector 30-A, Vashi, adjacent to the Sion-Panvel highway.

The fully air-conditioned centre will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in the presence of former Union agriculture minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar at 11 am.

The Rs 248 crore exhibition centre will have various facilities such as meeting rooms, cafes, lounges, food court among others. CIDCO has made provision for parking 450 vehicles. The centre will have two large exhibition halls of nearly 5,000 sq mt each.

The opening ceremony was delayed several times for various reasons.  Earlier, the planning agency had announced that the centre will be inaugurated on July 22. The day coincided with the birthday of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. However, it did not happen as the planning agency failed to select a partner for operation and maintenance.

“So far only one bidder has shown interest, after inauguration CIDCO will invite new tenders in the first week of September,” said a CIDCO official.
