On Monday the 16-year-old accused boy, responsible for mowing down two civil officers who died on the spot, was sent to the Children's Remand Home by the Juvenile court, Bhiwandi, said Senior Police Inspector (SPI) Namdev Bandgar.
"We are yet to make Alpesh Shah, the father of the teenager, a co-accused as we are investigating the case said Bandgar. It was the father who permitted his son to drive the family car- Ford Aspire- which is itself a crime said the official. The father runs a tyre trading business and we are also probing that the boy had many times earlier taken out the SUV for a spin in Dahanu and nearby areas for fun said Bangar.
Background case:
The boy, studying in Std X of a Dahanu school, on Saturday evening had mowed down two conservancy staff of the Dahanu civic council, killing them on the spot.
The boy was driving his father's white Ford Aspire SUV-MH48AC8771- and lost control and mowed down Vankesh Manji Zop(38) a resident of Chinbave Bamanpada and Bharat Kanji Raut(55) a resident of Agar in Dahanu.
The two victims were employed with the conservancy department of the Dahanu civic council and were draining rainwater from a manhole when the accused, lost control and collided with the victims and later also broke a portion of a wall of a hotel. The locals rushed the duo to the Cottage Hospital but they were declared dead before admission.
The boy was arrested under the strict Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC and other sections of the Motor Vehicle Act said the official on the day of the incident.
