In a growing movement against what residents are calling “unfair and unjustified” transfer charges imposed by CIDCO, several civic organizations have come together to organize a protest meeting on Friday, April 18, 2025.

The meeting, convened by Navi Mumbai Citizens Foundation, Sahakar Bharati, Navi Mumbai Co-operative Housing Federation Ltd., and Navi Mumbai Vyapari Mahasangh, aims to chart out the next phase of their campaign demanding the abolition of transfer charges levied on property transfers by CIDCO.

The gathering will take place at Jat Bhavan, Plot No. 51, Sector 44, near Poddar School, Seawoods, Nerul (West) at 10:00 AM. Organizers have urged residents from across Navi Mumbai to attend in large numbers and express their support for what they term a citizens’ movement for fair housing rights.

“These charges are a burden on homebuyers and go against the spirit of cooperative housing. It’s time CIDCO listens to the people who have built this city,” said Pramod Joshi, coordinator of the Navi Mumbai Citizens Foundation.

The organizers assert that the current transfer fee regime unfairly penalizes residents and undermines the cooperative housing structure, particularly affecting long-time homeowners, middle-class families, and small traders.

The campaign is gathering momentum, with civic groups stressing that only collective and united action will push the authorities toward a resolution.
