Mumbai: CIDCO has withdrawn permission for the PMC Kharghar Hill Mayor’s Marathon 2026, scheduled for August 23, citing monsoon safety risks. Public access to Kharghar Hills is restricted during the monsoon because of landslides, falling boulders and uprooted trees.
Residents had questioned allowing runners access while citizens remained barred and protested the restrictions on August 2. CIDCO said incidents of rocks falling on the hill road posed risks to participants and asked PMC to submit a fresh application for an event after September 30.
PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale said officials would inspect the route and seek permission again. Mayor Nitin Patil said the civic body would approach CIDCO MD Ashwin Mudgal for reconsideration.
