Mumbai: The Central Railway paid tribute to one of Mumbai’s most iconic landmarks, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), on World Heritage Day on Friday. Highlighting its architectural brilliance, historical significance, and cultural legacy.

World Heritage Day marked every year on April 18, officially known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving cultural heritage and historical structures around the world.

An X post shared by the Central Railway stated, "Central Railway salutes the pride of Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a landmark of timeless excellence."

“It’s one of the most clicked spots of India,” Central Railway captioned the tribute, recognising CSMT’s popularity among locals and tourists alike. But beyond its visual appeal, the video emphasized that “it’s not a building, it’s a landmark.”

The tribute further states, “Every photo here tells the story of a place that’s stood tall for over 135 years.” The Central Railway also highlighted the station’s integral role in everyday life: “Millions visit the station every day,” showcasing not just its historical importance but also its continued relevance as one of the busiest railway terminals in India.

The CSMT station is not the only heritage site in Mumbai. Others include the Elephanta Caves, the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco buildings along Marine Drive, and old buildings in the Fort area. With this tribute, Central Railway reminds us that heritage places are not just part of history, they are part of our daily lives and must be protected for the future.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), earlier known as Victoria Terminus, is a landmark railway station in Mumbai. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it showcases a unique mix of Victorian Gothic Revival style and traditional Indian architecture.
