Bombay HC To Hear Plea On Law Student's Custodial Death; Advocate Prakash Ambedkar To Lead Arguments

Somnath was "unlawfully" detained during a police combing operation in Parbhani following protests against the desecration of the replica of the Constitution. He was allegedly assaulted in custody along with other members of the scheduled caste community.

In connection with the custodial death of Somnath Vyankat Suryavanshi, a final-year law student who allegedly succumbed to police brutality while in judicial custody, a criminal writ petition has been filed before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court, Bench at Aurangabad, by this mother.

The matter is scheduled to be heard on 08/04/2024.

Advocate Prakash Ambedkar will be leading the arguments in this matter. He will be assisted by Advocate Sandesh More and Advocate Hitendra Gandhi. The petition seeks urgent judicial intervention, including the registration of an FIR against the  police officials concerned, an independent court-monitored investigation, and disclosure of the magisterial inquiry report pertaining to the custodial death.
