BMC officer held for taking Rs 3 lakh bribe from octroi agent

Thane: A Vigilance officer with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was caught red-handed by ACB sleuths here while accepting a bribe of Rs three lakh from an octroi agent.

The Class-I officer, Sunil B Bane, Deputy Collector (Vigilance) was nabbed last night while receiving the sum from the complainant, an Octroi agent, ACB SP Sandeep Karnik said in a statement here.

Bane had demanded the bribe from the octroi agent in lieu of not initiating any action on vehicles handled by him, the ACB said.

The agent lodged a complaint with Thane unit of the ACB which laid a trap and nabbed Bane while accepting the bribe money near the Castle Mills Naka following which he was arrested  and offences were registered under sections 7,13 (1)(d) with 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
