Mumbai: A 22-year-old youth lost his life after his bike rammed into two parked vehicles. He was driving the vehicle in an inebriated condition. The accident took place during the wee hours of Saturday in the Military Camp area of Santacruz East.

The friend, who was riding pillion, has suffered serious injuries. According to Vakola police, the deceased was identified as Manoj Kamte and has a sugarcane store. The pillion rider Faheem Qureshi (22), a waiter at a five-star hotel, was injured. Both are friends and reside in Santacruz (E). The police said the duo were intoxicated and searching for a cigarette shop. Finally, they reached Gunjan Society in the Military Camp outpost.

PSI, Sunil Mane, said Kamte lost his control over the bike and rammed into the two luxury cars parked in the area.
Soon after, the duo were rushed to nearby V N Desai Hospital, where Kamte was declared dead on arrival. Qureshi was transferred to Ion Hospital where he is said to be out of danger.  The police has recorded the statement of Qureshi who admitted that they were under the influence of alcohol.  “We could smell liquor on them but we have taken some samples for chemical analysis to prove that they were drunk. Kamte has been booked under IPC Sections 304 A (causing death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving),” added Mane.
