Mumbai: Western Railway developed two applications to detect fake tickets for passengers. WR has created two internal applications for ticket-checking employees to address the problem of fraudulent ticket holders.

The first app, which is now in beta testing, can scan a ticket's UTS number, mobile number and other details to compare them with the information in the railway system. On multiple occasions, commuters create fake QR codes for the tickets.

“The ticket-checking staffers have been asked to download the app on their mobile phones,” said a WR official. “It is being done in batches, and we are also providing training. This app will help identify ticketless travellers who use fake mobile tickets to travel, which is usually difficult to identify under normal circumstances'', as per reports by Hindustan Times.

The second app will assist travellers in getting their complaints resolved as quickly as possible. The ticket checkers have phone numbers to handle any complaints for any long-distance trains. Passengers can currently file complaints on the Rail Madad application's 139 helpline number, where their issue will be resolved.

The new internal application will take care of fake tickets but also take care of complaints like unclean toilets, AC, water leakage, food, and other issues in the train, all the issues will be solved in one click now and the complainer will get the solution as soon as possible.

“By doing this, the train captain as well as the rail control room will have access to the staff details,” explained a WR official. “Even other TTEs boarding at later stations in different coaches will have this information. In case of any complaint, the relevant staff will be immediately informed rather than waiting for it to come via the control room”,as per reports.
