App-based cab drivers have issued a stern ultimatum to the state government, warning of a massive 'Chakka Jam' across Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur on Wednesday, July 23, if their long-pending demands are once again ignored in a crucial meeting scheduled with the administration on Tuesday, July 22.

The protest threat comes amid an ongoing indefinite hunger strike being led by gig workers’ union leader Dr. Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, who on Monday completed the fourth day of his fast in support of cab drivers’ rights.

In a statement issued Monday, Dr. Kshirsagar said, “We temporarily suspended the indefinite strike of app-based cab drivers on July 19 to give the government time to respond and postponed the shutdown until July 23. But if we are betrayed again tomorrow, the protest will intensify.”

The union has accused the government of making repeated empty promises and delaying concrete action on key issues affecting gig workers and cab drivers, including fare regulation, commission caps, and social security measures.

Dr. Kshirsagar warned that if the meeting on Tuesday fails to meet expectations, the movement will not remain confined to symbolic action. “Starting Wednesday, July 23, we will launch 'Chakka Jam' in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur.

This warning by app-based cab drivers has raised concerns about potential widespread commuter inconvenience across Maharashtra’s busiest urban centers, and officials have yet to issue a formal response to the protest threat.
