Heavy rainfall lashed on Mumbai on Monday, causing disruption to daily life. Amid the deluge, a video went viral which showed a two-wheeler being swallowed by an open manhole which left many people furious.

The video of the two-wheeler sinking into an open manhole by the side of a road allegedly in Chembur, a suburb in Mumbai, attracted attention on social media, after which the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Monday denied that the clip was from the city. In the video, it can be seen that a man is struggling to take the vehicle out of the manhole. More people join him to help and eventually pull the vehicle out. The post has created quite a buzz on social media, with many slamming the Mumbai civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for their “unpreparedness”.

However, the official Twitter handle of the civic body later clarified that the viral clip was not from Mumbai. "This video is not from Mumbai. We request all the citizens to please verify facts before circulating such content, which could lead to unnecessary panic," the BMC said.

Heavy rains returned to Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Monday morning, affecting road and rail traffic and briefly disrupting operations at the city airport. This caused water-logging on rail tracks at Ghatkopar, Kanjurmarg, Sion and other stations due to which local trains on the Central Line were running slow. Office-goers who commute by local trains, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, were hit hard due to the heavy downpour in the morning rush hour.
