After a long wait, rain in Marathwada

After registering its presence in Konkan, the monsoon has now made its appearance in some districts of Marathwada. There were heavy rains in Osmanabad, Parbhani, Hingoli and Beed on Saturday.

Mumbai: After registering its presence in Konkan, the monsoon has now made its appearance in some districts of Marathwada. There were heavy rains in Osmanabad, Parbhani, Hingoli and Beed on Saturday. There were showers in Parbhani and moderate rainfall in Selu, Manwat and Pathari. Heavy rains in Osamanabad and Hingoli brought cheer to the people of Marathwada. To wel- come the first showers after a gruelling five-year dry spell in Marathwada, people performed puja at the Ganesh temple in Namlagaon, Beed, to express thanks and pray for more.

Rains also marked their presence in Solapur, Barshi and Akkalkot. In Hingoli, there were heavy rains through the night, accompanied by heavy winds. A farmer was seriously injured while two animals were killed in a lightning strike. Eknath Ramji Dhavse, the injured farmer, was rushed to a hospital in Vashim.The skies continue to be overcast and there are heavy rains predicted for Marathwada in the next few days. In Nashik, it rained in Vaigaon, Sarde, Kothare and Dundhe of Satana taluka.
