Mumbai: A 24-year-old man has been booked by the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police for allegedly performing an obscene act in a public place in South Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda area.
According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Nameer Nayeem Khatib (24), a resident of Byculla (East). The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Pradip Lahu Kapde (32), who is posted at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station.
As per the complaint, Constable Kapde was on night patrol duty on April 1, assigned to Beat Marshal 03. At around 8:30 pm, while patrolling in the Kala Ghoda area, he was approached by local citizens near Ador House on K. Dubhash Marg. They informed him that a man was seen indulging in obscene acts in a public place and had fled the spot on a scooter after being questioned.
Following this, police reviewed CCTV footage from nearby locations. The footage showed a man wearing a black T-shirt and grey pants hastily leaving the area on a scooter bearing registration number MH-01-FF-6808.

Further verification of CCTV footage conducted on the morning of April 2 with the help of the detection team revealed that between 10:10 pm and 10:20 pm on April 1, the accused was seen unzipping his pants and allegedly masturbating in public.
Based on the scooter registration number, police traced and detained the accused for questioning. Upon interrogation, he identified himself as Nameer Nayeem Khatib. An FIR has been registered against him at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station for committing an obscene act in a public place. Further investigation is underway.
