21-Year-Old Mumbra Resident Dies After Testing Positive For COVID-19 At Kalwa Hospital

A 21-year-old Mumbra man with diabetes died at Kalwa Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. He was in ICU on a ventilator; his body will be handed over post-mortem per protocol.

A 21-year-old Mumbra man who died at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa on Saturday tested positive for COVID-19. The victim has been identified as Wasim Sayyed (21), a resident of Mumbra in Thane.

Dr. Rakesh Barot, Dean of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, stated that, "the patient was admitted to the hospital on Thursday with type one diabetes and acidosis complications, and the infection was spreading. The patient was shifted to the ICU and placed on ventilation. The COVID-19 report came on Friday night and indicated that he had tested positive. Subsequently, he died on Saturday at about 6 AM before being shifted to the isolation room."

Dr. Anirudhha Malegaonkar from Kalwa Hospital stated that we diagnosed him with uncontrolled diabetes and that an infection was spreading in his lungs.

The body will be handed over to his family members for final rites in adherence to COVID-19 norms after a post-mortem is performed.
