Ujjain: Union minister for surface transport and highways Nitin Gadkari addressed a meeting of intellectuals at Madhav Seva Nyas auditorium here on Sunday afternoon. It was organised by the BJP to apprise the intelligentsia about polices and programmes of NDA government in backdrop of Lok Sabha Elections-2019.

RULED 60 YRS, BUT FAILED TO ELIMINATE POVERTY
Gadkari said if we see the data of Congress governance in previous years then after 1947 Congress was ruling for 55-60 years. All the committees including village panchayat to parliament were overpowered by the Congress. Prime pinister Jawaharlal Nehru claimed that he will eliminate poverty from country. Indira Gandhi too did the same and she even won the 1971 elections on the sloganeering “Garibi Hatao” though that promise remained non-fulfilled. Rajiv Gandhi too proposed the same idea but in vain. Then Sonia Gandhi had made Manmohan Singh the PM of country but he also failed to decrease the poverty of India. Now Rahul Gandhi is also claiming the same thing. “If Rahul Gandhi claims to eliminate poverty from our country if Congress comes to power then what did Indira and Rajiv do in the past years,” he asked sarcastically.

WEALTHY COUNTRY, UNWEALTHY PEOPLE
Gadkari also put forth a question as despite being a wealthy country why is the public so poor in India. He said we have to be wealthy citizen of wealthy nation and this could be possible after vision of good governance and development. We should consider those people god who are socio-economic weak and serve them till they are fulfilled. This is the main motive of the BJP which is following Pt Deendayal Upadhyay’s ideology. I am a transport minister and I want to share an incident from my childhood, I used to travel by cycle rickshaw. The person who rides the cycle pulls it on a sloping area with all his strength. I felt so sorry for him and on that very day I decided to introduce e-rickshaws. Today 90 per cent of backward people drive it for a living and are very happy. Poor people are getting debit cards and 34 crore bank accounts have been opened so far. Today Rs 5 lakh is given for the treatment of cancer. If we see, 2 km per day roads used to be constructed during Congress regime which had been increased to 32 km per day, he said.

CAN YOU SEE DEVELOPMENT?
The Union minister claimed that the Ganga has been so clean in Allahabad Mahaumbh-2019 that all the sadhus are thanking me. Rahul Gandhi had also promised but he has not done anything so far. We are focusing on converting global economy crop pattern to promote agriculture and help farmers. Good governance is dependent upon leadership and appropriate vision. A person should be judged by these values and not by his caste and creed. We have no deficit of money but we have lacking of proper workers. Our eyes can be donated, but the vision of development and growth cannot be donated. “You people decide that do you need a PM who will finish the terrorists attack in our country or the one who cannot do anything for that. The choice is yours and decision, too,” he concluded.

Prior to it, Gadkari inaugurated the programme by lighting a traditional lamp before the portraits of Pt Deendayal Upadhyay and Dr Shyama Prasad Mukhejee. BJP city president Vivek Joshi delivered the welcome address. Party rural unit president Shyam Bansal garlanded the guest speaker. Those who were present on dais included Union minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, Rajya Sabha member Satya Narayan Jatiya, outgoing MP Chintamani Malviya, MLAs Paras Jain, Bahadur Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav and Mayor Meena Jonwal among others. Amit Shrivastava conducted the proceedings while Rekha Ora proposed a vote of thanks.
