Ujjain: SPIC MACAY in association with SRF Foundation is presenting Virasat 2019 in which eminent flutist Shashank Subramanyam from Chennai will perform on Monday at 3 pm in DIET, Dussehra Maidan and in Shankara Institute opposite GDC at 6 pm. He will be accompanied on mridangam by Pahalgun Parupalli. SPIC MACAY state coordinator Pankaj Agrawal said that Virasat module aims at a close interaction between students and artistes. These events are held in a baithak style to create the traditional Upasak-Rasik relationship. SPIC MACAY since 1977 is a student movement aspiring to bring social awakening amongst youth through its different modules.
Shashank is a Grammy nominated renowned exponent of bamboo flute from India and specialises in Indian classical music. He was a child prodigy and began performing at the age of 6 in 1984 and has performed in the top concert circuit for over three decades. He is the youngest recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi’s senior award by government of India to be awarded by the President of India for the year 2017. The BBC world TV did a documentary on Shashank titled Destination Music recently.
