World Poetry Day is observed annually on March 21 to pay tribute to poets. It also aims to promote the reading, writing, and teaching of poetry worldwide. Poetry is a form of art and culture. Poetry has historically served as a potent form of expression, resonating with emotions, igniting thoughts, and uniting individuals across different cultures and generations.

Poetry uses forms and conventions to suggest differential interpretations of messages. In simple terms, a poem is a piece of writing that uses words creatively and imaginatively to express thoughts, feelings, or ideas with rhythm and rhymes.

What is the meaning of the Poetry?

Poems are a form of art that allows writers to explore ideas, stories, emotions, and ideas in a unique way. They are often structured with lines and stanzas (groups of lines) and can have rhyme rhymes or both at the same time. Poems can be short and simple, like haikus, or longer and more complex, like sonnets. Poems are used to narrate a story and it can be used to share personal experiences.

History of World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day was announced during the general conference of the United Nations in Paris in 1999 with the aim to promote poetry and linguistic diversity and to honour poets around the world. Since then, numerous soulful celebrations on March 21 have been fostering the diversity of linguistic kernel and creative spirit across the globe. During the 30th General Conference in Paris, UNESCO declared March 21 as World Poetry Day. The day acknowledges the contributions of poets and their impact on society.

The theme for the World Poetry Day is "Poetry as a Bridge for Peace and Inclusion." The theme of this year aims to connect people across borders, cultures and languages to promote mutual understanding and connecting people from across the world.
