Rituals

On this day, devotees wake up early in the morning and take a holy dip in the Ganga river. Then they offer Arghya (water) to Chandradev (Moon), which is considered to be rewarding on this day. Some devotees put gangajal in their buckets and take a holy bath at home. On this day, devotees should observe Satyanarayana vrat and offer prayers to the Lord. Practising charity, like distributing food, money, and clothes to poor people, is considered auspicious on this day.

Chaitra Purnima vrat katha

According to legend, in ancient times, there was a very poor Brahmin who lived by begging. He was a devoted devotee of Lord Vishnu. Seeing his bad situation, Lord Vishnu himself took the form of an old Brahmin and advised him to observe the fast and worship Lord Satyanarayan on the day of Chaitra Purnima. By observing the fast, his life transformed and he started living happily.
