It looks like actress Deepika Padukone has ditched boring and found an edgy fashion groove. Seeing the change in fashion preferences at Cannes and Grazia Awards only make us wonder when and how this change happened! The actress’s choices reflect her new-built confidence where she doesn’t have to please anyone but enjoy the moment and find fun in dressing up. “Deepika has always been a risk taker and her recent fashion choices highlight the fact that she knows how to have fun with fashion.
Unlike mundane, boring, safe styles, she is surely pushing the envelope from luxe-athleisure to glam-athleisure,” affirms designer Aniket Satam. The outfits Padukone chose to wear were both experimental and elaborate; it was a good choice for somebody who is looking to stand out in a crowd. “Deepika is a perfect example of style, confidence and the right attitude. Keeping in mind that neon colours are difficult to carry off, with the right styling she managed to effortlessly pull her looks off,” says designer Adarsh Makharia.
“Everyone can have a vision but bringing it to life is what really makes a fashion statement,” declares Adarsh. “The one at Cannes with the big black bow and the huge green ruffle dress with the perfect headband, well I would say, she is a powerful woman. Conveying strength and courage to all the women in the world but in style,” explains stylist Eshaa Amiin.
Styling lessons
“The best part I would say is taking the X factor out of the runway and onto the streets. It’s very inspiring for the people around to try new things and ditch the tee and jeans combo,” explains Eshaa. “Deepika mixes high-street with luxury flawlessly,” says Adarsh. Poky straight hair or easy breezy blow dry works best for any and every occasion. “Invest in some classic denim separates and oversized shirts which have become women’s new best friend over diamonds,” adds Adarsh. “She also plays with her strengths; her statuesque frame is always the focus,” mentions stylist Maneka Harisinghani.
The co-ordinates are minimal and basic more often than not, and they are styled to make the look modern and effortless. “For instance, note the half tucks and knots on a basic shirt, paired with dainty jewellery. Her occasion-wear has a lot of focus on tone on tone styling, which is easy for one to re-interpret and take inspiration from,” adds Maneka.
Deepika has been embracing colours rather fearlessly of late, and taking a cue from that, one can try gold, silver, gunmetal, a bright purple, neon green, neon pink or a neon yellow in tones that suit your skin and body well. “If you love yellow, but you think it is too much for you, I would say just paint your nails yellow and throw on a white dress. You can work all the colours out if you know the right balance,” explains Eshaa.
Power of confidence
“Self-confidence can drive you to do anything. It sounds like a cliche, but you should dress to embrace who you are. I believe that if you are confident enough, you can pull off such styles effortlessly,” claims Maneka. Eshaa feels, “Not only these styles, but other styles also need a lot of confidence to be carried off.” Even a casual airport look can make someone look more stylish than someone who is all dressed up for the red carpet.
Getting out of the comfort zone and trying new trends and tricks is what makes you stand out. “What I really love about her looks is that it's never the same. Some days she's bold and confident, on the others, she is a definition of grace and elegance. You never get bored of what she does with fashion,” expresses stylist Eshaa Amiin.
