Fabric matters

Loose and breezy outfits are at the heart of summer fashion. A necessary factor in bringing out the best in fashion whilst being comfortable is to look out for breathable fabrics and fibre like linen, khadi, muslin, cotton. Say a big no to synthetics.

“You could try out casual kurtis in the fibre-based materials as they look dapper under pant-styled churidaars and palazzos as well. If you are not a fan of ready-made outfits, you can get a stitched one that fits your form well,” suggest Rishi & Soujit. You may opt for boho outfits, urban and modern wear, minimalist and chic, casual and trendy — the choice is yours and completely dependent on your body type as well.

“One can have a concentration on loose fit kurtis paired with boyfriend jeans as they are summer staples. Anti-fits work best during summers as they do not stick to the body,” explain Rishi & Soujit. Do avoid nylon, wool, suede, faux leather, etc. Let summer lift you up rather than weigh you down!

Palette preferences

When it comes to colours, switch to bright pastel tones like chrome yellow, lime green, blush pink, ivory whites and aquamarine. “They keep your skin cooler while making you look radiant,” says label Mona & Vishu.

“If you are not a fan of saturated tones, you can look out for cooler shades of blues and pinks too,” mention Rishi & Soujit. They not only help keep the heat away but also make you look summer ready. “We personally prefer switching between pastel tones, aqua colours and pinks. La Vie En Rose (life in pink) is simply our funda of the perfect summery and spring vibe,” state Rishi & Soujit.

Dressing inspiration

Hassled while creating your OOTD (outfit of the day)? Invest in some jumpsuits and flowy dresses to look cool and feel comfortable. Cocoons, kimonos, shirt style dresses, boyfriend shirts, and pants are also perfect for everyday wear.

“Office looks can veer towards pleated straight pants or pleated flared skirts instead of fitted pants and skirts,” suggests designer Purvi Doshi. “Party wear could go two ways. We highly recommend a chiffon sari with ruffled blouse or a boho-patterned shoulder gown with high side slits. These work well for summer parties,” advise Rishi & Soujit.

However, if you want a rather casual look, you can opt for torn denims paired with an oversized shirt or a pencil skirt paired with a bishop sleeve top. Not only do they look chic but are easy and breezy outfits fit for a summer evening retreat.

“Anti-fit white shirts or floral empress line dress are some really pretty and sober outfits that work well for summers,” add Rishi & Soujit. They are flowy, breezy and comfy — all at the same time. “One could try floral skater dresses, asymmetrical kurtis, off/ cold shoulder tops and outfits, flowy skirts and others as per their comfort and dressing sense,” say Rishi & Soujit. The side slits shoulder gown can best be complemented with gladiator shoes or boots. For the chiffon sari, one can try out a pair of heels and you are good to go.

Best foot forward

Summer months are very humid and sweaty so one needs to make sure that the footwear one chooses is comfortable and airy. “When it comes to footwear, we love sliders and ankle length gladiators as they bring out the perfect summer look. You can also try out some chic golden bamboo basket-weaved sliders to add on a subtle yet glam look as well,” recommend designers Rishi & Soujit.

Ankle length gladiators and sandals complement any and every outfit like denim shorts or maxi dresses. “Sliders also go well with everything from denim shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses or Indo-Western/ ethnic wear,” they further add. Sliders are a summer staple for both men and women and can help accentuate your look effortlessly. They are stylish, functional, chic and modern — all at the same time. “Avoid rubber soles and closed bellies. Slip-ons or open sandals are the most preferable ones,” says Purvi.

Season staples

Carrying a pair of sunglasses and a hat/ cap are highly recommended. “Avoid neckpieces and bangles to minimise sweat on your skin. A funky earring can work as a friendly accessory for all your summer looks,” point out Rishi & Soujit. One can look out for light-weight earrings, hoops, tiny studs or simple diamond earrings.

“Add a tote bag and you are good to go. Not only is your tote bag summer fashion-friendly, but it also plays the role of carrying all your accessories together making it easier for you to stay stylish and functional simultaneously,” declare Rishi & Soujit. “This season’s must-haves include the bucket hats from the ’90s, basket straw bags and some very stylish angular sunglasses,” adds designer Anjali Bhaskar.
