We Indians already knew what importance butter garlic naan holds for us but now the world has recognised it too. Indian cuisine has once again taken the global spotlight as Butter Garlic Naan has been ranked the best bread in the world in TasteAtlas’s March 2025 rankings. This soft, airy, and buttery flatbread, seasoned with garlic, earned a remarkable rating of 4.7, making it a favorite among food lovers worldwide.

Why butter garlic naan is number one?

Butter Garlic Naan secured the top position due to its rich flavor, perfect texture, and versatility. According to TasteAtlas, the naan is traditionally prepared using flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and dahi (yogurt). Once baked in a traditional tandoor (clay oven), it is brushed with butter or ghee and topped with freshly minced garlic, enhancing its taste. The combination of these elements has made this Indian bread an international favorite.

Other Indian breads among the top rankings

India’s dominance in the rankings was further solidified with several other traditional breads making it to the list:

Amritsari Kulcha (Ranked 2nd) – Known for its crispy exterior and spicy, flavorful stuffing.

Parotta (Ranked 6th) – Loved for its flaky texture and layers of goodness.

Naan (Ranked 8th) – A versatile classic that pairs well with curries and gravies.

Paratha (Ranked 18th) – A staple Indian bread, available in multiple variations.

Bhatura (Ranked 26th) – The deep-fried, fluffy bread served with chole (chickpea curry).

Aloo Naan (Ranked 28th) – A stuffed version of naan filled with spiced potatoes.

Roti (Ranked 35th) – The simplest and most commonly eaten Indian bread.

Global breads that made the cut

The TasteAtlas ranking also included other globally beloved breads:

Lahmacun Pidesi (Turkey, Ranked 3rd) – A boat-shaped bread with rich toppings.

Roti Canai (Malaysia, Ranked 4th) – A flaky, layered bread that pairs well with curries.
