Stepping into the FPH Gallery this month feels like stepping into a sacred space-where paint speaks, colours chant, and silence hums with energy. Artists Subhash Wagh and Jenson Joseph come together to present a dual exhibition that dives deep into spiritual surrender and the ever-present pulse of nature. Their works, though stylistically distinct, are united by one powerful force: nature as both muse and guide.

For Subhash Wagh, this exhibition is not just a display-it’s a prayer. Rooted in faith and his deep connection to Aadi Shakti-the feminine force-his art blossoms from surrender. “Unknowingly, I surrendered at her lotus feet,” he said, “and from that surrender emerged a powerful energy that aligned my mind, body and soul.”

The colour of love and devotion

Wagh’s paintings are a vibrant celebration of life, surrender, and divine union. He believes that colours, like two lovers, come alive when they meet on canvas-forming a beautiful union of emotions and expression. "Storm of ideas and romance is colours is my motto," he said. His preference for bold, bright hues isn’t accidental. Each stroke is purposeful, echoing inner awakening and emotional richness.

Despite a career spanning decades and numerous awards, Wagh’s passion remains fresh. Quoting Robert Frost-“Miles to go before I sleep”-he reminds viewers that creativity is a journey, not a destination. His artworks are not just visuals, but meditations in motion, guiding the viewer through themes of love, devotion, and cosmic alignment.

The silent rhythm of nature

In contrast yet in harmony, Jenson Joseph approaches his work from a place of natural stillness. “I surrendered to the silent rhythm of nature-the light, the wind, the shifting earth,” he shares. In that surrender, Joseph found not only his artistic voice but also a deeper understanding of life itself.

Nature, for Joseph, is the first and ultimate guru. His abstract acrylic paintings reflect not what the eye sees but what the soul feels. With layered textures, fluid forms, and deep tones, his work brings forth the idea of finding stillness amid chaos-a core belief that shapes his art.

Unity in contrast

Though Wagh and Joseph express their visions differently, one through intense colour play, the other through fluid abstraction, both artists channel the energy of the natural world. Their canvases radiate a shared reverence for the unseen forces that guide life.

Come experience Jenson and Subhash's art at the FPH Gallery, Free Press House, Nariman Point, Mumbai. The exhibition is open for visitors till June 30th, 2025.
