Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting Budget 2025 in Parliament, announced that the government will collaborate with states to develop 50 top tourist sites. "We will work with states to develop 50 top tourist sites, enhancing their infrastructure and global appeal," Sitharaman stated. Special attention will be given to destinations linked to the life of Lord Buddha, including Bodhgaya in Bihar.

To support the tourism and hospitality sector, especially in smaller towns and villages, the government will extend Mudra loans to homestays. Additionally, hotels will be included in a harmonised scheme aimed at boosting the sector’s growth. This step is expected to create more job opportunities and strengthen local economies.

Promoting medical tourism and ‘Heal in India’

The government plans to promote medical tourism through partnerships with the private sector. The initiative, named ‘Heal in India,’ aims to position the country as a leading destination for medical treatments, offering world-class healthcare services to international patients.

Visa waivers to attract foreign tourists

In a bid to attract more foreign tourists, the finance minister announced that certain foreign tourist groups will receive visa waivers. This measure is likely to boost international tourist arrivals, contributing to the growth of the tourism industry.

Infrastructure support: Western Kosi canal project

The budget also includes financial support for the Western Kosi Canal project, which will benefit 50,000 hectares of land in the Mithilanchal region of Bihar. This project is expected to improve irrigation facilities, support local livelihoods, and enhance agricultural productivity.

With its comprehensive approach, the Union Budget 2025 aims to drive growth across tourism, healthcare, and infrastructure. These measures are set to create new opportunities, boost the economy, and improve the quality of life for people across the country.
