Kuala Lumpur, March 29: Malaysia has officially declared that Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31. The announcement was made on Saturday (March 29). The decision was made as the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in the country today. Muslims in the country will observe the 30th fast on Sunday and Eid will be celebrated on the first day of Shawwal on Monday (March 31).
Today marks the 29th day of Ramadan in the country. As the sun has set, the crescent moon is expected to be visible tomorrow (Sunday). Based on this, authorities have confirmed that Ramadan will complete 30 days and Eid will be on Monday.
A tweet was shared on social media by the official account of the International Astronomy Center. The tweet read, "Malaysia: Monday, March 31st is Eid Al-Fitr. The sun has set in Malaysia and Eid al-Fitr will be on Monday, as today is the 28th day of Ramadan. The crescent moon will be visible to the naked eye tomorrow, Sunday."
Muslims in Malaysia will now prepare for the celebrations, which include Eid prayers, family gatherings, and festive meals.
