Figs are eaten fresh or dried and are used to make products such as jam, syrup, chutneys, Indian sweets and rolls, cakes, cookies, tarts, and energy bars, and are also added to salads and many savoury dishes.
Ayurveda prizes figs for their cooling properties and ability to balance Pitta and Vata doshas. Acharya Balkrishnaji considers them useful for the stomach, as it works as natural laxatives supporting bowel movement. It also manages blood pressure with its potassium.
Acharyaji also talks about it building strength since it works as a revitalising tonic to grow tissues and lower weakness. It is useful for reproductive health since it supports reproductive fluids. It helps with weight loss since it keeps you full with its nutrients.
