Ananya Birla tells Shikha Jain that fashion to her is all about being who you really are
An Indian songwriter, singer and entrepreneur, Ananya Birla feels at home in her jeans and tank tops with a cap thrown on. Daughter of business tycoon Kumar Mangalam Birla, she is also a sneakerhead and affirms that being stylish means being cosy because that’s when one can enjoy fashion.
Keeping it casual
Fashion to me is comfortable and who you really are. Fashion should be fun as well. My wardrobe must-haves would be a pair of jeans, a pair of boyfriend jeans, a white ganji, sliders, heels, boots, a dress and sneakers. I am a sneaker person. I like my cap as well. So, basically, I would say just comfortable clothes. Jeans, T-shirts, ganjis, caps, sneakers and a dress in case you need to go out at night. You need to have a hoodie in your wardrobe as well.
When I am comfortable then I look my best. When you feel good from the inside it shows. However much of a cliché it sounds, I think it’s the truth.
My signature style would be jeans, T-shirt, sneakers and a hoodie and a cap.
Rules to remember
I think perfect is very relative. For me, perfect could be something and for my best friend it could be something else. For the lady standing there, it could be something else. Be yourself, I think it is very important. Being appropriate is very important. What you are wearing where is important. Apart from that just have fun. Feel comfortable.
I colour my hair a lot. I love having fun with my hair because it grows. If you colour your hair, I would say, don’t touch your roots. It’s better to have an ombre or a vibe. Olaplex helps, deep cleansing and conditioning helps. Try doing 170 or 180 when you are using a heater.
MUA knows it better
On a daily basis, I actually wear no make-up. For no reason good or bad. It’s just the way I am. I have a great make-up artist (MUA). She is a good friend as well. Her name is Lovleen Ramchandani. She is the one who does my make-up.
I think Sonam is amazing. I think Athiya is amazing. I think Rita Ora has style and Gigi Hadid too. Rita Ora is my favourite, though. She can pull off a short dress. She can pull off baggy pants. She can pull off whatever heck she wants to wear. In designers, Sabyasachi is my favourite. All his stuff is phenomenal. He is a genius. I love Off-White; I like their stuff. I like Alexander Wang. I have been wearing these Alexander Wang boots since forever. Valencia Gaga is another brand I like. I like Redone jeans. I like Levis jeans. Abercrombie is another brand I like and Giovanni Rossi for my shoes.
