The Supreme Court on Friday granted protection from arrest to actor Sherlyn Chopra in an alleged porn films racket case.

A bench of Justices Vineet Saran and Aniruddha Bose also issued notice to the Maharashtra government on the appeal filed by Chopra challenging order of the Bombay High Court rejecting her anticipatory bail.

Chopra’s advocate submitted that protection has already been given to other accused in the case. On January 18, the SC had granted protection from arrest to actor Poonam Pandey in the case.

In December 2021, the apex court had granted protection from arrest to businessman and Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra, in connection with an FIR registered against him for allegedly distributing pornographic videos.

Kundra had been booked under certain Sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and Information Technology Act, for allegedly distributing/ transmitting sexually explicit videos.

Kundra had approached SC after his pre-arrest bail was rejected by the sessions court and the Bombay HC.

The SC has kept the matter for hearing on February 28.
