A special court on Wednesday pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for not responding for five years to pleas made by five accused in a cheating case concerning Indian Overseas Bank.
The agency’s prosecutor had sought an adjournment and more time to respond. Special CBI Judge AS Sayyad said in his order that from the last two occasions the court has been continuously addressing the seriousness of matter in non-filing of the responses since around five years. It noted that it had brought the situation to the attention of CBI’s higher officials and that the progress of the case is at a standstill due to the issue.
Judge Sayyad said that CBI shall file the responses on the next date without fail or it will proceed hearing them without the CBI’s reply, for which the agency alone would be responsible.
