Now, travelling between Mumbai and Pune will not take 3 hours as Central Railway is set to ply an advanced version of Mumbai-Pune Intercity train on the Mumbai-Pune route which will decrease the travelling time by more than 30 minutes. The locomotives attached to the either side of the train will enable train to take less time than it currently. The trial was successfully conducted by Central Railway on Friday, and will shorten the travelling time between the two cities to 2 hours and 35.

As travelling by road between Mumbai and Pune also takes up to 3 hours, the Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express will become the fastest mode of travel between the two crucial cities of Maharashtra. At present, the train currently takes 3 hours and 17 minutes from Mumbai CSMT to Pune and 3 hours 10 minutes from Pune to Mumbai CSMT.

As per the revised timetable, the intercity will leave Mumbai CSMT at 6.45 am (instead of 6.40 am) and reach Pune at 9.20 am (instead of 9.57 am). While returning, it will depart from Pune at 6.30 pm (instead of 5.55 pm) and arrive at Mumbai CSMT at 9.05 pm.
