The digital locker will act as a document wallet where student can access a document and verify it for an employment opportunity.

Mumbai : In an attempt to go digital, the Mumbai University on Saturday decided to digitise its entire documentation process for all its students. From now on, all the documents pertaining to the University of Mumbai like certificates and mark sheets along with the process like verification, stamping and approval can be procured online through the gateway of this digital locker.

This locker will help keep documents safe in the digital format and every student associated with university will have his unique username and password to access these documents. Moreover, the digital locker will also accept Aadhaar identification and if not Aadhaar than any other government identity verification in order to avoid any fraudulent user.

The digital locker will act as a document wallet where the student can access any document and verify it for any employment opportunity. The student will have to enter his username and password, initially fill an online application form of basic personal details and then would be directed to the digital locker.

Also for the verification process, the student can ask the university to verify any of his or her documents and the university will provide all the details of the concerned verification officer along with an OTP (one-time password) to prevent forgery and hackers.

This move has been initiated to eradicate the tedious process of physically going to the university, waiting in long queues and spending extra time. Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, said, “We want to curb the tiresome process where students face a lot of difficult and delay just to obtain one single mark sheet or verify a single certificate. This leads to delay in admissions and employment opportunities. Now, the students will be able to access their documents from their homes within 20 days.”

The Mumbai University wants all colleges and institutions to work with them so that they can integrate everyone into this digital locker system.

Avira Tharakan, the technical consultant for this digital locker system, said, “This document wallet will work on the similar concept of a Paytm wallet wherein the Mumbai University will act as the bank and users will be students. Just like one’s money is safe in the Paytm wallet, the documents and certificates of students will be safe in these document wallets.”

Vaishnavi Sridharan, a student of psychology at the university, said, “This is a really good initiative as often we have to stand in long queues and wait for long hours. And when we apply for jobs in other states this will help us to verify and access documents easily from wherever we are instead of coming all the way to the university.”
