Mumbai : St. Stanislaus Jr College in a ding dong under-17 battle of attrition against St. Francis D’Assisi prevailed 7-5 via tie-breaker after both were tied at 2-2 in the regulation period to storm into the under-17 final of the DSO’s (Divisional Sports Office)’s District level Football tournament, organised and sponsored by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sports Management at St. Francis D’Assisi ground, Borivali on Thursday.
Displaying tremendous aggression the Bandra boys led 2-0 in the first half, with goals coming through Keegan Pinto and Chinmay Chavan. But the scenario change in the second half with St. Francis hitting back to reduce the margin midway and then found the equalizer in the nick of time to take the match to the tie-breaker.
However, the Stanislaus boys hit the target five times, while St. Francis missed twice. In the boys under-19 quarterfinals, Thakur junior college goalkeeper Jay Suryavanshi played a key role, bringing about numerous saves under the bar as they beat Bunt’s Sangh SM Shetty (Powai) 2-0. They next will take on Bandra’s MMK Jr College, who put out K.J.Somaiya (Vidyavihar) by a soliltary goal. While the other semifinal will see St. Andrew’s and St. Francis D’Assisis (Borivali).
